Well, the Melbourne breakcore lunatics didn't make it to the show tonight (see previous post) but the estimable John Chantler came down after his Frigid set and played live on the show, processing the live cello of yours truly - a Utility Fog first! Even As We Speak - This Is My Dream (Peel Session, 1993) [unreleased, copy direct from Mary Wyer of EAWS] Saturday, 30th of October, 2004
Guests tomorrow (3:49 pm)
OK kiddies, just a quick plug: tomorrow night the inestimable Dave Toecutter will be hauling in a few crazy Melbournians performing (tonight!) at the famous SysCo Halloween night - check the news page for some info. Here's what the ’cutter has to say about them. Some or all of the following will be down, probably sometime during the second hour (11-12pm Sunday night): Cambion - breakcore soundscapes deep and well programmed noise structures MisconceptIAN - a Breakcore DJ with skills to kill the pills. Overfiend Rek / AnGUTS - spastic noises, de-structure, stabbing woke up covered in bloody next to your mate's girlfriend, emotional meltdown whiteheat. Probably mostly playing new music, rather than chatting, because: And by the way, the following Sunday (6th of Nov), the Toecutter man himself will be coming in to play some new tunes of his - mega-hard breakcore, insane appropriation of other people's recordings - and maybe talk about whether "breakcore" sucks and whether radio sucks ;)

Lots of new promos and stuff tonight! As well as more from the new Gauche and Triosk albums, we had a sample from a compilation put out by the Melbourne Fringe Festival (a beauty of a track from Inch-time), and various other Australian gems. A bit of a focus also on the more post-rock end of things, although it's hard to get away from a bit of an electronic focus. A new album by The Boats, featuring the two members of The Remote Viewer (both of whom used to be in Hood) on their own Moteer label. More gems from Static Caravan including the incredible English folk-meets-the hard-disc of Tunng, and disquieting almost-ambience from d_rradio, while Do Make Say Think remix themselves for the excellent new Constellation compilation Song of the Silent Land. Gauche - The Road [self-released promo of forthcoming album Paints Lane]

A flurry of new stuff came in this week, including a bunch of breakcore - from the melodic yet hard Bollywood Breaks EP by Enduser to yet more insanity courtesy of the man Henry Collins aka Shitmat - and some Grime-meets-drill'n'bass from Milanese on Warp. Also, new stuff from bands featuring two of Sydney's best drummers - that's Gauche and Triosk. Checkit. Slint - Rhoda (10" version) [Slint/Touch & Go]

email: utilityfog at frogworth dot com bsky Mastodon Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech consumes genres and spits them out in new forms. Whether cataloguing the jungle resurgence, tracking the ups and downs of noise and drone, or unearthing the remnants of glitch and folktronica, all is contextualised within artist & genre histories for a fulfilling sonic journey. Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. Now available: free "Live on Utility Fog" downloads!
