Playlist 20.03.05 (9:07 pm)

A cornucopia of newness this week - so much so that I was tempted to leave some for next week... In the end I think I ended up playing something from all the new releases I had up for this week.
Next week I'll be able to cover some of them in more detail - more from the extraordinary new Venetian Snares album for a start! Aaron Funk (Mr VSnares) was in Budapest and found himself imagining what it would be like to be a pigeon... Through this bizarre epiphany, he was inspired to learn some rudimentary violin and clarinet, and sample all sorts of 20th century classical and maybe even gypsy music for what I can confidently say is his best outing yet, the Rossz Csillag Allat Született album for Planet µ.
Karl Marx Stadt gave us a different (and perhaps even more insane) take on orchestral breakcore, strangely also choosing 7/8 for his time signature... And I featured a number of tracks from the great breakcore compilation Crimson, introducing new label Terminal Dusk. Also a brilliant new single from 65daysofstatic, of which more next week too.

Venetian Snares - Öngyilkos Vasárnap [Planet µ]
Björk - Gloomy Sunday [One Little Indian]
Björk - Desired Constellation (Ben Frost's School of Emotional Engineering mix) [One Little Indian]
Masha Qrella - Unsolved Remained [Morr Music]
Gauche - CCTV [Invada]
Hood - any hopeful thoughts arrive [Domino]
Hood - still rain fell (alternate version from extremely limited 4-track CD included with first 100 copies of the new album) [Domino]
65daysofstatic - the fall of math (65dos remix) [Monotreme]
Drop The Lime - Tivoli Clinic (10.28.00) [Tigerbeat 6/Very Friendly]
vitaminsforyou - It's Only Snow - It's Only Sunshine (live) with the Wawa International Brass Ensemble [intr_version]
L. Pierre - Rotspots from the Crap Map [Melodic]
Boom Bip - red room [Lex Records]
Plankton - High Lite and Deep Shade [Feral Media]
ii - the secret people [demo CDR]
Pasobionic - Dead Like the Young [Elefant Traks]
Sole - self inflicted wounds (produced by Alias) [Anticon]

Enduser - Dubplate #12 [Ad Noiseam]
Line 47 - Field Stencils [Terminal Dusk]
Karl Marx Stadt - 7,000,000,000 [Lux Nigra]
Venetian Snares - Hajnal [Planet µ]
Mugison - Fyrirheit (by Kippi Kaninus) [Accidental]
Disjunction Reunion - VB [Unschooled] {From the very worthy West4East.org project, a benefit for the victims of the Asian Tsunami, distributed in Australia by Couchblip!}
Comatone - Stillpoint Coma [Feral Media]
Karl Marx Stadt - theorie und praxis [Lux Nigra]

Playlist 13.03.05 (8:02 pm)

Tonight, I made good on my promise to play a different Joanna Newsom track (I played two in fact!) and played some folky and girly-vocal stuff at the start inspired by listening to Joanna's Milk-Eyed Mender album all week.
A bit of a teaser for 13 & God's amazing forthcoming album (that's the Notwist and Themselves collaborating) as well. Later, a comparison between the tape-mashed orchestral sampling of the The Beatles from 1966 with Dntel's technique of sampled orchestral meanderings behind pop vocals, and also a "spot the same bassline!" game with new Pasobionic and classic Future Sound of London... A bunch of great jungle/breakcore later on too.
Next week, if everything goes to plan, new Venetian Snares, new breakcore compilation called Crimson, more new Boom Bip, and a whole lot more!

Joanna Newsom - Sprout and the Bean [Drag City]
Joni Mitchell - The Last Time I Saw Richard [Reprise]
Gonzales - Meischeid [No Format]

13 & God - Superman on Ice [Alien Transistor/Anticon]
Hood - Branches Bare [Domino]
Gauche - Can't Get Back [Invada]
Triosk - Two; Twelve [Leaf]
Plankton - Nubius Insomniomniomnia Remix [Feral Media]
Enduser - No Wisdom [Ad Noiseam]

Best. Interview. Evar. (11:36 pm)

We interrupt this broadcast...
I don't often post to Utility Fog when I'm not putting up the current playlist, but I've got interviews on my mind... Earlier this week I did an interview with Sean from Autechre, and earlier tonight I interviewed Richard from Hood - two groups very close to my musical heart.
The Autechre one won't go to air till April, when their stunning new album Untilted drops (check that title carefully!)
The Hood you should get to hear somewhat sooner.

Meanwhile, I write because I just read a fantastically entertaining interview with Doseone over at Pitchfork. Fans of Subtle, Themselves, cLOUDDEAD and so on, go check. (Oh by the way, Themselves' collaboration with the Notwist, 13 & God, is awesome. You will be buying this when it comes out.)

Big show tonight, quite a bit of da noo stuff. Starting tonight with a track from Subtle, dedicated to Subtle and in particular Dax Pierson. All members of Subtle were in a rather horrific car accident a bit over a week ago, and Dax was seriously injured. Check out the page for him on Anticon's site at the moment for a letter from Dose...
