Good evening. Starting tonight just in time for Fernando Gonzalez to probably lose the Aussie Open to Federer. He put a good fight though, and here's a musical tribute to the guy... kinda... Gonzales - Chilly In Bb Minor [Kitty-Yo] Sunday, 21st of January, 2007

Tonight I gave over a fair bit of the start of the show to the wonderful band Tin Hat aka Tin Hat Trio, whose latest album is either just out now or coming out in the next few weeks. We had related madness also, followed by my favourite punk band NOmeansno, then later some stuff from the latest album by everyone's favourite offensive git Dave Toecutter (we love the boy), and excellent math-prog from Maserati. Momus - Moop Bears [American Patchwork]

Tonight, UK-based cellist Bela Emerson, in town with Stomp for the Sydney Festival, drops in to talk about her music and play a couple of her tracks. We've got a few stray 2006 releases squeezing over into 2007 (well, things I missed, anyway! Hello Momus!), we've got pastoral shoegazey postrock from northern UK, and we mourn the death of Alice Coltrane with a beautiful track of hers. Momus - I Refuse To Die [American Patchwork]

First Utility Fog of 2007! Welcome. Still playing a whole lot of the best tracks from 2006, but starting to draw the net a bit wider too. I saw Saul Williams at the Falls Festival last week in Tasmania (as well as a year ago in Sydney) and he's awesome. We've got some new vinyl from Various Production, with a couple of brilliant alternate versions of tracks from previous releases, and on the new release front we have some Israeli idm from Or Burstein, a surprise return to the Plug moniker for some drill'n'bass from Luke Vibert, and lovely folktronica courtesy of oblong. Filastine - Autology (feat. Jessika Skeletalia Kenney) [Soot]

email: utilityfog at frogworth dot com bsky Mastodon Utility Fog teeters on the cusp between acoustic and electronic, organic and digital. Constantly changing and rearranging, this aural cloud of nanotech consumes genres and spits them out in new forms. Whether cataloguing the jungle resurgence, tracking the ups and downs of noise and drone, or unearthing the remnants of glitch and folktronica, all is contextualised within artist & genre histories for a fulfilling sonic journey. Since all these genre names are already pretty ridiculous, we thought we'd coin a new one. So "postfolkrocktronica" it is. Wear it. Now available: free "Live on Utility Fog" downloads!
